R you excited? will u go for it?
‎"Aakash" might be a record breaking stuff in tablet sales of Indian market! World’s cheapest tablet, Aakash had 14 lakh orders in 14 days from the day online booking was started at Rs 2,500 per piece on Ncarry.com. This is definitely something the folks at Apple computers might have a hard time believing. Datawind, a UK based vendor is ready to cater the unexpected demand and is ready to establish three new factories in Cochin, Noida and Hyderabad in the first half of 2012. Datawind currently has a factory at Hyderabad and its vendor, Quad makes the LCD panel for tablet.
CEO from Datawind said that the response from users was simply unexpected and the company will be able to supply about 70,000-75,000 units per day once the factories are established by April. Bookings were open for 30,000 tablets on the website and they were purchased in a flash. Also, pre-sales bookings for Aakash tablet were about 400,000 in number which surpassed entire tablet market of India which was 250,00-300,000 tablets till last year. The bookings crossed iPad tablets of all series. Datawind also has plans of putting online the details of next version of Aakash, Aakash Ubislate-7 and make it available for buying. While the technical developments are pretty much less compared to the first one, it is beneficial in terms of internet connectivity. Whatever, Aakash has definitely made history not only in its price but also in its booking by drawing people!

Steve Jobs wanted Lytro camera technology for iPhone

A new book titled “Inside Apple” discusses how former chief Steve Jobs wanted to reinvent photography on the iPhone in addition to television and textbook markets. Jobs reportedly met with Ren Neg, CEO of photography company Lytro in June 2011 to discuss this topic, according to9to5mac who received an advanced copy of the title launching on January 25.
apple, iphone, steve jobs, camera, lytro, photography, ren ngAs the excerpt reads, Ng caught wind that Jobs wanted to meet with him and dropped everything to rush to Palo Alto. Ng gave Jobs an in-person demonstration of the Lytro camera technology. Jobs then asked Ng to send him an email outlining three things he’d like Lytro to do with Apple.
Ng did indeed send the email but as far as we know, a deal was never agreed upon between the two. Jobs passed away two months later following a storied bout with cancer, just one day after the introduction of the iPhone 4S.
Lytro went on to unveil the world’s first light field camera as a consumer-friendly device in October 2011. The Lytro camera works by capturing the light field, which is described as all of the light traveling in every direction in every point in space, including the color and vector direction. Lytro’s light field sensor is able to capture 11 million light rays in a single shot. This data is lost in a conventional camera which simply adds all of the light rays and records them as a single amount of light.

The real selling point of this camera is the ability to focus anywhere in a photo after you have snapped it. This eliminates the need to focus before taking the picture and ensures that a timeless shot won’t be ruined by incorrect subject focus.
Pricing starts at $399 and you will need a Mac to edit your photos. Lytro’s website still lists “early 2012” as the shipping date, although you can place a pre-order now.
It remains to be seen if we will ever see a Lytro-based camera inside an iPhone but the idea alone is enough to get excited about.

iOS 5 Battery Drain: Save Some Juice With These Top Tips [iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch]

By now you’re either in love with iOS 5, Notification Centre and vastly improved page rendering times – or you’re banging your head against a brick wall wondering why your device no longer lasts a day without a charge. Apple has acknowledged that some (particularly iPhone 4S owners) are experiencing issues, and for severe battery drain you might want to try re-installing iOS 5 again. However, as with each new update your device is now doing more than ever and that’s bound to suck up more juice than ever before.
After much tinkering, scouring and charging we’ve come up with a plan for those with unforgivable battery drain.

Disable GPS-Based Time Zone Detection & Others

This is a very useful feature for those who travel, or are thinking of travelling and don’t want to miss that all-important connecting flight. For anyone else who doesn’t regularly switch timezones it’s a fairly useless feature that (according to iOS 5’s settings) regularly queries for a location fix.
Use of GPS on any device is going to drain the battery, that’s why if you’re using navigation software in your car it’s always best to keep your phone charging via an in-car adapter. If you don’t do this you might find that when you reach your destination you’re going to have a fairly flat battery.

You can disable this setting in Settings, Location Services and then System Services. In this menu you will notice a few other services that you might like to disable, such as Location-Based iAds (oh Apple!) and Traffic data. The less your phone, tablet or media device uses GPS, the more battery you’ll have at the end of the day.

4 Ways to Make Your Android Device Feel New Again

Most people keep a phone for nearly two years. Unless you’re keeping things fresh, you’re likely to get a bit bored with the look and feel of your phone. And while you can’t change the hardware, you can surely change the software.
Here are four ways to make your Android feel new again, in order of easiest to most difficult :

Change your wallpaper :

This might seem obvious, but it’s amazing how much of a difference a change of wallpaper will make to your experience. Most devices let you change the lock screen wallpaper independently of the home screen, so you can get even more variety by making them different.
Our reccomendations? If you like Live Wallpapers, try Fireworks, Koi, or Super Mario. All are free.
If your battery life is on the fritz and you don’t want to toll your CPU with animated backgrounds, tryBackgrounds HD for a huge selection of high-resolution static images.

Change your lockscreen :

If the “slide to unlock” function on your homescreen is feeling a bit stale, check out WidgetLocker to increase the functionality of your homescreen. This app is well worth the the $2 pricetag, as it gives you endless flexibility to make your homescreen functional. You can add widgets, place multiple sliders to quickly launch your favorite apps, and more.

Change your launcher :

Android is unique in that you can install a third-party launcher to change your home screen interface entirely. Don’t like HTC Sense, MotoBLUR, or TouchWiz? Try either LauncherPro or ADW Launcher EX. These apps let you set custom gestures for dock icons, apply visual styles to your application tray, and lots more.

Change your ROM :

At the end of the day, your phone is only as good as its core software. Thankfully, there’s a huge selection of third-party ROMs available from the development community that can increase your battery life, improve deviceperformance, and drastically change the look and feel of every screen. For example, I’m currently runningVillainROM on my Galaxy S II, which has improved my battery life by around 20%. Another popular ROM series is MIUI, which transforms your Android in what appears to be a totally different operating system.
To load a custom ROM, you must root your device and install a custom bootloader. To do this, allocate at least an hour of time to make it happen, as rooting often involves running through a handful of steps. Check out the development forum for your device over at XDA; you’re likely to find a sticky thread with instructions on how to get started.
